Anti-Aging: What Do You Know Beyond the Products?

Anti-Aging and Skin Care can be confusing. And that can make selecting the correct products a daunting task.

Just for a moment though, let’s take all the anti-aging products out of the picture. What do you actually know about how to maintain younger looking skin without all the externally applied lotions and potions?

Does what you eat affect acne, or help dry skin? Are all liquids consumed beneficial to the skin? Hmmm, ever thought about that? Or are you relying on whatever it is that you apply every morning and night (your anti-aging and skin care regimen) to do it all?

What you ingest (food and drink) is a factor. Your daily lifestyle is, too. If you don’t know how these things affect the aging of the skin you don’t have a complete picture.

And it isn’t just your skin that is affected. Your entire body can be more (or less) healthy  depending on what you eat and drink. And those lifestyle choices count for something as well. Like how much sun you get and whether you are using sunscreen (and please don’t tell me you are using a tanning bed, please, noooo). And smoking? For God’s sake, QUIT!

I was looking around on WebMD this morning and I found this short quiz, “What Would It Take To Have Younger, Beautiful Skin? It is only 7 questions long. Take the quiz. See what you know.

Yeesss, I got all the answers right. Of course I did, would I be sitting here writing this blog if I didn’t? What kind of Esthetician would I be  if I didn’t know the answers? But I want you to know the answers, too.

So go test your knowledge… After your quiz WebMD provides the correct answers and the information to back it up.

I do disagree with one thing they said though. For oily or acne prone skin they suggested plain soap and water. Well, maybe it is just my Esthetician brain kicking in but I think you can do much better with skin care that is targeted for those issues.

Yes, it can be soap, but not “plain” soap. Find one that is formulated to the issue you are trying to treat. Because plain soap can often strip your skin of needed natural oils, causing a reaction of increased oil production making acne or blemish prone skin worse… And you don’t want that, do you?
