Emu Oil: Anti-Aging & Other Benefits

Emu Oil. To me its, ewww (Ewwwmu Oil)! Yeah, I know Oprah uses it, or at least says she does. But honestly, I just am not all that excited about smearing rendered bird fat on my face and body. Not because I am a vegan, or even a vegetarian. And yes, I love animals. But not scorpions. One stung me last night. And yes, loving animals and eating animals, whole ‘nother issue for someone else’s blog. But I digress…

Granted, emu oil is great for the skin. Or so they say. And who are “they”, anyway? Mostly those who are manufacturing and selling emu oil would be my guess. Yet I did find information sighting a number of benefits to be had from the use of emu oil. And not just from an anti-aging view point.

But let’s start there. Anti-aging. Supposedly modern researchers are saying that emu oil has the ability to rejuvenate the skin through cellular regeneration. Better than collagen. But are they talking about collagen peptides? Or just collagen as an ingredient in a skin care cream? It isn’t clear. And plain old collagen does not penetrate the skin and therefore can do nothing to regenerate the skin. Only a peptide can do that. You know that if you have done your homework or checked out other posts here.

Emu oil is also supposed to be an excellent moisturizer, helping skin to retain its own natural moisture and increase skin thickness. Youthful skin is moist and plump, we all want that. But again, bird fat. Ewww.

Burns, scars and skin grafting procedures are said to benefit from the use of emu oil. Oh- and it is supposed to be good for eczema, too. Claims are made that it reduces swelling, arthritis, and joint pain. Also good as a massage oil (not for me) and for use in the practice of Chiropractic.

I don’t know. I’m just not ready to get behind this stuff. Are you? Want to know more about it?

And then come back and comment about what you think. Like it? Or ewwwmu?

I did do research, then and since. I just think it is a personal thing. It does not appeal to me. However that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t change my mind at some point. Who knows…

    Thank you for your input.

I think you may want to take another look at emu oil.  My wife is an esthetician and she uses it in her daily routine for customers.  However, she only uses it from one source, http://www.pure-emu-oil.com because they molecularly distilled the oil for purity.  Meaning, you are only getting the beneficial byproduct from the oil vs some of the downsides I’ve heard from emu oil.  Check it out, do your research, but we use it daily in our household.
