Acne Scarring – A Solution?

Hearts_with_Border_by_sunshine089Recently I met a young woman via the web that expressed great concern about acne scarring. I know personally how devastating acne can be emotionally, as I had a short lived run in with the dreaded stuff myself. Mine was what they refer to as Adult Acne, and responded well to a short term treatment plan. And I was fortunate not to have any scarring at all. But I know that if I had I would not be happy. So I felt compelled to try and find an answer for this young woman.

So I consulted with a few skin care contacts as to what product or tool is most effective in the minimizing of acne scarring. Microdermabrasion came up, as I expected. I knew this was a first line of treatment. Minimally invasive but expensive over the long run. Very invasive and very expensive, but very effective is a medical laser procedure. Laser requires a long down time for healing which can be inconvenient. And it is a cosmetic procedure not covered by medical insurance. Chemical peels work, less down time than laser but again, can be quite costly.

I was looking for something that is affordable. The home version kits for microdermabrasion are an option, but they are considerably less powerful and effective when compared to a professional treatment. I wanted something that was going to really deliver for this young woman.

What I found is a tool called the Derma-Roller, by Scientia. Have you ever heard of Skin Needling? It is a technique that has been around a while and is used by Estheticians, Cosmetologists and Plastic Surgeons as a non-invasive facial rejuvenation cosmetic procedure to reduce acne scarring, diminish age spots, firm, tone, reduce wrinkles, treat scarring and stretch marks. It appears to have a remarkable effect on acne scarring.

A a matter of fact, Angelina Jolie once demonstrated her skin needling technique for Marie Claire Magazine using the Derma-Roller by Scientia. Now who would have thought she ever had acne scarring?! Nice of her to admit it and offer her solution, don’t you think?

Rachel Ray did a segment on her TV program reviewing the Derma-Roller in regards to it’s effects on wrinkles and sagging skin. The report and results were very good.

So what is it, exactly? The Derma-Roller is a tool that looks very similar to a small sticky tape lint roller. Only instead of sticky tape it has, yes you guessed it, tiny needles. These tiny needles make teeny little pin pricks on the skin.Your skin perceives this as damage. No, it doesn’t hurt! It doesn’t penetrate deep enough to hurt or draw blood.

Your body reacts to this perceived damage by triggering a healing response. The release of  regenerative  skin repair and growth factors actually stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. On the cosmetic level, the skin will respond to the repeated triggering of the healing process. Thus, improvements and results are cumulative over time. Acne scars can be diminished with regular use and patience.

The Derma-Roller is also effective in treating discoloration and hyperpigmentation as well (dark spots on the skin).

And I find it good to know that the Derma-Roller is regarded as anon-invasive cosmetic procedure approved by the FDA just like microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser photorejuvenation. How about that?

So how do you get your own hands on a Derma-Roller? Right here If you click through you will find lot’s of info, before and after photos and FAQ’s.

You are welcome. I haven't had the need for this particular product/solution however, I have an acquaintance who absolutely swears by the Derma Roller. She has also noticed an improvement in the level of collagen in her skin as her face appears fuller and skin is more plump. Pretty cool, huh?!

    Thanks for your comment!

Thanks Kell! I had heard of it as a procedure to be done in a medical setting. But this is a safe and popular at home use product. I found out about it by consulting with other Estheticians still working in spas, and with a woman who also has a skin care website and has tried it herself with success! Best of luck to your daughter if she chooses to give it a go! Cheers and Love to you too!
