Tanning Beds: Aging and Addictive
Tanning beds. If you read the previous post on Tanning Beds you already know how I feel about them. I don’t like them. I mean, I. REALLY. DON’T. LIKE. THEM. For me, or for you. They age your skin, rob you of your skin’s natural beauty. And more importantly, they put you at risk for serious health issues. Like, um, cancer.
Now I realize that I left some important information out of that last post. It is called ADDICTION. Yeah, if you are using a tanning bed you may have a monkey on your back.
Heard of endorphins? Runners high? Endorphins are a naturally occurring chemical in the body. When endorphins are released into your system you feel good. Endorphins are a natural pain reliever, so if you are wondering why someone running for miles could possibly feel good, that’s why. Now how about tanning bed high? Read the rest of this entry »
Anti-Aging and the Hands
The first thing other people notice about us is our face. And I have spent a good deal of time here addressing how to take good care of your face and keep those wrinkles from creeping up on you. And to minimize, reduce the appearance of the wrinkles you may already have.
Want to know the second thing that gets noticed? Your hands. Our hands get more attention than you think. We use our hands in so many ways that we are not even conscious of. We use our hands to gesture in anger and excitement, to add emphasis to nearly everything we say. Our hands convey feelings of love and comfort when we caress or touch a loved one. Anti-Aging and Sunscreen, Fact Not Fiction
Like to get out when the weather is warm? Ever thought about how the sun and warm weather, at home or on vacation, can affect how you age?
Sunscreen can slow the aging of your skin. By now pretty much everyone should know that. And those of you who are over 30 will be seeing pretty obvious changes in your skin if you have neglected the use of a good sunscreen.
Sunscreen is an anti-aging treatment! It is your first line of defense for anti-aging. Even if you are young you should be thinking about anti-aging and the role sunscreen plays in it. If you are over 30 and didn’t use sunscreen as a younger woman, you may well be wishing you did! If that is the case, start using sunscreen now if you haven’t already. And for any damage that you are seeing as a result of not using sunscreen, fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, etc., there are products available to start you on your way back to more youthful skin. Aging and Wrinkles from Extrinsic Causes
In another post I told you about how wrinkles are formed. About the internal biological stuff that causes wrinkles over time, the intrinsic factors. But there are also a number of factors that are related to lifestyle and personal habits that contribute to wrinkles, and just how soon you start seeing those wrinkles appear. These are extrinsic reasons for aging of the skin. And they are how we get those free radicals roaming around in our systems, like little “pac men” messing with all our healthy cells!! I really think the media itself has properly covered this. Articles in magazines and news show segments are always telling us what not to do!
But I am going to give you a little run down as a reminder. Because changing some of your wrinkle inducing habits could make a big difference. And help your skin care products do their job giving you a complexion nothing short of gorgeous!
Okay, Here we go!
#1: Do not smoke. Smoking is one of two of the biggest wrinkle inducing habits. And it isn’t just the toxins and restricted oxygen and blood flow that are the problem. The actual physical motion of pursing the lips to take a puff, well , where do you think those vertical lip lines come from? You will also earn the experience early degradation of collagen and elastin if you smoke. Read the rest of this entry »
How Wrinkles Are Formed, Like It or Not…
Well, I don’t like it. Do you? I thought not. Unfortunately wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. And many things contribute to it. Lifestyle, the habits you have, or don’t have are a factor. Family genetics are another.
So what goes on in the skin as we age that causes those wrinkles to appear? Remember those fibroblasts I mentioned a couple times in other posts? Those factories of the skin that produce collagen, elastin and GAG’s (glycosaminoglycans, such a BIG word). These fibroblasts start slowing production over time. This is because of the natural aging process and from outside influences. The loss of collagen, elastin and GAG’s cause the skin to wrinkle and fold in on itself. Yuck. Read the rest of this entry »
