Anti-Aging & Skin Care Products: Magazine Award Lists
Of course you have seen them. Just about every women’s magazine has them. You know, those articles where they tout what the beauty editor claims is the best skin care or anti-aging products. Or often it is based on a reader’s poll.
Do you believe the products receiving these “Beauty Awards” are truly the best you can get? Do you run right out and stock up? Or do you do a little research of your own first, like finding out the list of ingredients and what they really can or can’t do?
I have wondered at times if some of these ‘awards’ are based on advertising dollars. What do you think?
And if it is “Reader’s Choice”, do you really think the average reader (not you of course, you read this blog, wink..) knows what the right combination of ingredients are? Are they voting/nominating these products because they smell great? Or maybe because it is a highly advertised product, so therefore, it must be great? Read the rest of this entry »
Adult Acne: Not Fair!
I know what you are thinking… acne and wrinkles, so not fair. And you are absolutely right. It isn’t. I know about that first hand. See it happened to me. I never had a break out problem as a teen and sailed right through my 20’s and 30’s with clear skin. Very few wrinkles as well (which is mostly what I tell you about here, wrinkles and how not to have them).
Then came my 40’s. A few wrinkles, nothing to shout about. Then a very stressful move across the country. Suddenly I was dealing with Adult Onset Cystic Acne. Ewww. And being an esthetician, need I tell you I was absolutely mortified?
So off I went to the dermatologist. We tried every topical prescription available. We tried nearly every oral medication indicated for acne. And nothing worked.
My acne was not horrible. I have seen much worse cases. But it was certainly enough to make me miserable. There was one remedy we had not tried because I really didn’t want to go there. I had heard the horror stories of Accutane.
I bit the bullet and took it. Turned out that it was too strong for my system so I took a half dose for a longer period of time. My skin became so dry and so sensitive it was nearly unbearable. And not just on my face, everywhere. Read the rest of this entry »
