Dry Skin – Quick Fix Tip with Olive Oil

Dry winter skin getting to you? Haven’t replaced your usual moisturizer with something a little more emollient? Or you have and it still isn’t enough?

Here is a quick fix anyone can do in a flash. Olive oil! We all have it in our pantry. All you need to do is add a drop to your moisturizer in the palm of your hand, mix it up real well and apply.

Olive oil is rich in vitamins A and E which are antioxidants and fight damaging free radicals. It also contains natural plant derived Squalene. Squalene is a natural moisturizer used in many cosmetics.

Be aware that Squalene is also a compound found in the liver of sharks. Go for the more environmentally and animal friendly version found in olive oil. Remember, cosmetic labels can be misleading, make sure it states Squalene as olive oil or as botanically derived, which would make it ‘Squalane’. That is the derivative taken from the olive oil.

One other very cool component of olive oil is Chlorophyll, which is aolives photosynthetic pigment found in plants and algae. It is an anti-aging substance that promotes the healing of skin conditions and wounds.

So next time you have a dab of your moisturizer in your palm and need a little boost for that dry skin, mosey on over to the pantry and have a little visit with that bottle of olive oil.

And don’t worry about smelling like the makings of a salad dressing. You won’t notice and no one else will either. Trust me, this works.

Note~2/25/2010~ After writing this post I started thinking about Squalene and Squalane. And started looking around, did some research. Check this out to see what I learned, and why I now use the Squalane in it’s pure form.

Wrinkles and Argireline – “Better than Botox”?

SmoothIf you are looking around at products that are meant to replace those expensive Botox injections, you have more than likely run across ads claiming this: “Better than Botox”. Right? I know I’ve seen plenty of them.

The ingredient that they are claiming is better than Botox is Argireline, or Acetyl Hexapeptide-3. This ingredient is a synthetically derived protein. Companies using this ingredient are claiming that it has muscle relaxing abilities. This ingredient is being put into products that are meant to be applied to the entire face. Now maybe I haven’t heard right, but isn’t Botox meant only for the brow and forehead area? And isn’t Botox a muscle movement minimizer, in other words muscle paralyzing?

Let me ask you this: Supposing that this ingredient works as well as the manufacturer claims and does relax the muscles of your face, is relaxing every muscle in your face something you really want? Doesn’t it make sense that if you were applying this on the entire surface of your face that the muscles of the face would all relax and you’d end up with sagging skin? Of course you would notice that, wouldn’t you? Are you using it? On your entire face? Is your face sagging? No? Then maybe it isn’t really doing anything at all. Read the rest of this entry »

Anti-Aging and the Hands

Two_of_a_Kind__Hands_by_AnyaCollinThe first thing other people notice about us is our face. And I have spent a good deal of time here addressing how to take good care of your face and keep those wrinkles from creeping up on you. And to minimize, reduce the appearance of the wrinkles you may already have.

Want to know the second thing that gets noticed? Your hands. Our hands get more attention than you think. We use our hands in so many ways that we are not even conscious of. We use our hands to gesture in anger and excitement, to add emphasis to nearly everything we say. Our hands convey feelings of love and comfort when we caress or touch a loved one.
