Facials with Gold, Bird Poo, Noodles and Snakes?

Gold FacialsI don’t get it. Really, I don’t. I am totally into skin care, but puuuhleez, what is going on here? As an Esthetician I have performed a variety of different types of facials. And I’ve always believed and still do believe in science based anti-aging skin care.

I began today thinking I would take a look at a new trend in facials that I personally find rather questionable. Gold Facials. This is a facial I have never performed. It is something that has become popular recently, claiming to assist in lymphatic drainage, removal of toxins, the regeneration of cells and improvement of elasticity and smoothness in the skin. All of these things are good. This is based on Ayurvedic, an ancient health regime of India. Read the rest of this entry »

The Oxygen Facial – What’s Up With That?

oxygen__by_ryussei23Well, I’m not sure exactly… What I am not sure about is why anyone would pay so much money for something that has no medical or clinical studies. No source of unbiased facts. No proof that the Oxygen Facial stimulates collagen or elastin production.

And golly, let’s see. If I remember correctly, oxygen produces oxidation, which is damage. That’s true. Umm, isn’t that what makes a slice of apple turn brown? Which is why we are encouraged to eat a healthy diet rich in antioxidants to combat that. Read the rest of this entry »

Alpha, Beta and Poly, Who Are They?

RadienceCertainly we have all heard about exfoliating, right? That process we should be incorporating into our skin care regime that keeps the skin on our faces, and our bodies, fresh and glowing.

In my experience as a facialist I found that most clients skipped this essential step. Sure, they got the exfoliation during a monthly or the occasional facial but this is a process that needs to be performed on a regular basis. Read the rest of this entry »

Stop Wrinkles Before They Happen – FYI Under 40!

A_Nice_Smile_by_WorldIISo, you think because you are in your 20′s or 30′s you don’t need to worry about Anti-Aging Skin Care? You could not be more wrong! When I was at that stage in life I knew that one day I would have wrinkles. I moisturized, used good products, did what I could. Since I am an Esthetician I had access to some of the best skin care of the day. But none of them could prevent wrinkles from forming. The technology for those types of products did not exist. There were products that claimed to prevent wrinkles and reduce wrinkles, but they were just that, claims. Read the rest of this entry »
